Mattick, J.S. and M.F. Mehler(2008) "RNA editing, DNA recoding and the evolution of human cognition"

From enfascination

I don't have my copy of the paper with notes, so I can only give my high -leve memory of the paper. I was really surprised that RNA editing is so closely related to humans and to our brains. I thought the connection got pushed a little too hard though, very Theory of Everything.

Went into different kinds of RNA editing. and had fairly good biological detail

Never mind. Worong paper:

Rightpaper:

Lots of biology, a little too technical for me, creating a funny contrast between legit science and the theoryof everything vibe that i remembered. Lots of circumstantial evidence (by authors admission)

what is positive selection? Wiki says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directional_selection http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balancing_selection

I never would have guessed such close connections between immune system, RNA editing and DNA repair. Add to the humans and brains and consciousness and it sounds incredible.
